One Hundred Days of Happy - Day 22
I kinda let this little 'event' slip, but I really need a touch of the happy today. It's not like anything heart-rending has happened, nah, but I've gotta stop catching whiffs of fandom pettiness on Twitter (usually not from my own timeline, but trickling in from the periphery) and I'M WEAK AND HAVE TO SNOOP and then I see things I'd rather not. So. Snuggle me in your mothering arms, LJ. At least for today. ;)

Anywho, some happy! I've always hated my 'pro' website because 1.) it was ugly and 2.) um, well, it was ugly. And also, kinda scattershot and too full of fandom things for professional uses. It's tough for me to brand myself and I'm a pretty dubious web designer, but I found a free site that's user-friendly and not too obnoxious, so I cooked up a new, streamlined, greatly improved portfolio site: quickreaver.com.

Feel free to check it out and leave me a critique! Test the links. Suss out bugs. Make suggestions! I have yet to add a shop with non-fandom work; I don't have much stuff to peddle yet, but it's forthcoming. For the time being, I'm happy I made something that's usable, somewhat professional, and not boring or (hopefully) over-the-top. Eventually, I'll upgrade to the paid version and get rid of the ads, and as I hone my brand (whatever that turns out to be), the inventory of images will grow and evolve into...something? Apparently I have a lousy time taking myself seriously as a professional, yep.

But I'm happy I finagled a portfolio site, so there's that!

Twitter is totally my happy place (followed very closely by AO3 and now LJ), but it takes a lot of maintenance to keep it that way sometimes. I'm sorry yours brought you down today. I don't really have mothering arms, but I can still snuggle anyway ;) *snuggles*

I think your website looks great (and all your art is gorgeous, as usual ♥)! I especially love the font you used on top. (I probably shouldn't have visited it while I was at work, though, oops.) I think my main suggestion would be to maybe consider increasing the contrast between the background and the color you used for all the social media links? Granted, I'm four feet away from my work monitor, so the angle and distance don't help, but I almost didn't notice them at all. I'd also maybe suggest making some slight adjustments to your wording in your About section (for example: (s)mothering got split up for me - the (s) was on one line and mothering on the second) - and I'm not sure how I feel about the picture of yourself that you chose (I'm learning that you don't seem to like pictures of yourself, which I don't really understand but will have to respect... So while *I'd* like to see your pretty face, the silhouette does rather fit the feel of a lot of your art... kind of dark and mysterious with a side of slightly creepy. So if you were going for that, kudos! :)). ANYWAY, all in all, I like it very much :)

Not at all related, but perhaps it could connect to the 'happy' part of your post... I was reading some of my old fic yesterday (probably all that discussion over on spn_writing!), and I thought perhaps you'd get some enjoyment from reading this, my first fic. I think it just barely qualifies as a fic, it's so short and plotless, lol, but the hope of it is that, by the end, you would have a smile on your face. I'm not really sure why it made me think of you as I read it yesterday (perhaps because I associate you with a fondness for gen fic?), but if you do give it a chance, I hope it adds to your happy :)

I dig Twitter too, make no mistake! Most of the time, my TL kinda hilarious but it's not as well curated as my LJ, so stuff can dart in sometimes and before I know it, I'm in deep and grumpy. Fortunately, it doesn't take long for that tide to turn!

Thank you for all the suggestions! I'm taking notes and everything is in the works. What device were you viewing on? I wonder why '(s)mothering' was split. (Eventually, I will a better userpic but in the meantime, creepy will do just fine. You caught my intention, totally, hee!)

And yay, a rec! I will totally devour it. You're kinda awesome, you know?

I was viewing on my work desktop computer. I wonder if the word-splittage maybe has something to do with the paragraph alignment? It looks like some of the spacing within the paragraph looks kind of funky, like maybe it's aligned using Justify.

Haha, it won't take long to devour - it's not even 2k! But I do hope you enjoy it. And you're kinda [really] awesome too ^_^ ♥

Can you take a screen grab of the issue for me? I fiddled a little more today. Thanks!

Sure thing, boss ;)

DRAT. I aligned using the site's Justify tool, yep. The parenthesis must flummox the derned thing. I'll change that. Thank you! (And I enjoyed the heck out of your fic!)

aw, lol. I'm glad you liked it.

Happy to help! Good luck with the fix!
