"Ask the Artist" at spnroundtable
Happy Monday, gang. I trust everyone enjoyed Vancon, ya lucky dogs? I can't wait to pour over all the reports.

But in the meantime, if you were ever slightly curious about my art technique, I'm featured over at SPN Roundtable, in their "Ask the Artist" feature. I suck hind titty at formatting so it might be ridiculously fugly, but I hope it's at least not annoying! Back to the grindstone...

Don't you just want for season 7 to start with Dean saying, "hey, assbutt!" to Godstiel?

or maybe it's just me... ;P

I read through old ask-the-artist posts the other day and thought to myself 'maybe quickreaver will be next' – so happy to see you were! :D
Sorry for replying late, I saw you posted but didn't sit down and read it trough until now.. but even it's a little late I just wanted to say, awesome post and really very interesting to read! It's fun to see how you work and like others have said, the discussions about how to use references were interesting to read too. I mostly worry that showing reference photos will make it more evident how poorly I draw from them, hah. But somehow I find what you wrote inspiring to try and be more confident about my work. You're so wise! <3

I'm wise because I'm so old! ;) That, and I used to mod an art forum so I'm very familiar with how reference is perceived.

You know, I'd far sooner see someone's ref photo and say to myself "Look how uniquely they interpreted that photo, without copying!" than "Gosh, it looks just like the photo."

I often wish I hadn't put so much emphasis on realism in my own schooling because now I have a really hard time leaving those old techniques and habits behind, in the interest of expression and growth. I have similar insecurities as you! "If I do something different, folks will see how BAD I am at it!" But you've gotta be willing to put yourself out there and be honest, or you do no one any good, including yourself.

So yeah...let's be flawed and risky and adventurous together! I won't laugh at you if you don't laugh at me... ;)
