Writer's Block: The name game

What's the origin of your username? If you could change it to anything else, would you, and what would it be?

(I stumbled on this from hells_half_acre . Her name's inspiration is far more elegant than mine, but hey, whatcha gonna do?)

Okay, I'm outing my larping past. Back when I was young and pretty, I participated in a fantasy larp with a bunch of my friends (whom I'm still friends with, to this very day, but we're far too long in the tooth to dress in chainmail bikinis anymore. And the boys looked uncomfortable in them, anyways. Chafing.)

We masterminded a group of assassins to rob and kill other players' characters (nice, huh?), but we didn't want to be completely overt about it. So one of the guys pulled together the name 'The Quickreavers': 'quick' as an obscure reference to 'life' (yay for thesauruses!) and 'reave', an archaic term for 'breaking or rending'. We knew if we hung in an official group together, no one would screw with us. Other players feared us. We were legion. It became something of a crooked honor to be a Quickreaver. Kinda like the Shriners, without the silly fezzes.

Years later, when I was prowling about for a unique on-line name that didn't immediately identify me as female, I lovingly resurrected 'Quickreaver'. Because we were such cool-ass larpers in our Halcyon Days. *ahem* And the name is just plain...cool.

So there you have it. I am, at once, embarrassed and proud. Story of my life.
