The Babel Fish has Forsaken Us...and it is GOOOOD!
Just under the wire, we think! :D indiachick wrote a deliciously quirky and fascinating and downright awesome Big Bang. Run, don't walk, to her fic here: The Babel Fish Has Forsaken Us. It really is fantastic, no lie. She has such a way with dream imagery and metaphor. It's delightful, there's no better word for it. :D

I uploaded an even bigger version HERE, to show how rough and mish-mashed it is, up close.

Tiny illustrations for section dividers:

An extra thanks to Wendy for continually running this amazing event, and to Dee, because she is the most wonderful of writers. I can't wait to read the whole thing again, spit and polished! \0/!

Wow! So beautiful! I love the soft light reflected off Sam's and Dean's skin. Dean looks as if he's going through the effect of the mark, and Sam a little helpless. The background looks amazing with the haunted castle perched on a small island in the middle of the sea. It's intriguing that the water around the island seems violent while the rest of the sea looks calm. The moon and the cloud add to the mysery. I'll read the fic to know what the red band and the bird mean. Is more art coming in the follow-up :D?

I procrastinated...as per my stupid usual...and only got a few tiny doodles done, for chapter dividers (which I just did.) But thank you SO MUCH for the lovely words! The background was a bit of a photo-slam, in that I used a lot of phototextures cut and pasted all over the place, but the figs were painted from scratch. (Perspective and architecture is still my bane.)

The fic is really, really cool! Enjoy it!

Haunting art makes me want to read the story!

Read it! It's truly delightful... :D

Gorgeous! I really love the expressions on both of the boys' faces. :)
The indefatigable Mrs. Griffinquickreaver on August 16th, 2014 07:12 pm (UTC)
Thank ya! I got a portfolio review from an art director once, who told me the expressions on my figures were fairly...nondescript? So I've been trying to keep a conscious eye on that ever since. So yay!

Oooh. Nice and atmospheric -- you've definitely captured the mood of the story. And I love how you worked Dee's red thread into the art, how it seems to tug the boys together. The sky is gorgeous, deep, and mysterious -- love that haloed moon! Dean looks so beaten and exhausted while Sam seems to be struggling against the pull of the thread and underwater . . . . intriguing. Fantastic work as always, bb.

Aw, thanks, Deb! This image was a leeeeetle bit ambitious for a realistic painting, but the fic is so atmospheric, it needed similar art. Even if wasn't easy or what I pictured in my mind's eye...but when is it ever, right?

*hugs to pieces*

Gorgeous poster! Sam and Dean are both beautiful, especially their expressions, and the island has such a haunting look it adds to the gloom of the dark water.
I'm sure the story will be equally excellent : D

Thanks, bb!

The indefatigable Mrs. Griffinquickreaver on August 16th, 2014 07:19 pm (UTC)
I haven't read the totally finished version yet, but it wasn't overtly slashy the first time around. I'll read it again and report back! Thank you. :D

OMG, I forgot you were doing the art for this one! Such a lovely surprise to wake up to :D The house on the island, eeeeeee, this is so cool, I suddenly want to read ALL about that house, as if I haven't before.

I wish I hadn't dragged ass, and did MORE art because this fic was so chock full of great imagery! She's fantastic with OCs too. I'm really looking forward to reading the finished version, now that she's made is all shiny. :D

Wow, this is beautiful! You've created such a haunting and intriguing atmosphere.

Your attention to detail is incredible. I love the waves and the moonlight, and the poses of both boys just make me want to know more about the fic. I could look at this all day and still see new things!

As always with your art, I love the rich quality of your textures, and the background shadow effect of the bird really adds a new dimension.

I'm definitely adding this fic to my bb reading list. This is stunning art!

The devil's in the details, isn't that what they say? ;) (Actually, details will be the death of me, I suspect...) But thank you!

I think you'll really dig the fic, it's kinda hard NOT to. It's just so charming! Enjoy!
Amberamberdreams on August 16th, 2014 06:47 pm (UTC)
Lovely lovely lovely! I'm SO glad you snaffled this one because it needed someone with your level of talent to do indiachick's imagination justice. The colours are wonderful - I love the greens and blues, and the shadowy bird and the bubbles that turn into stars and back again, and the moon mirrored in the circle in the water that draws the eye to the way Sam is unanchored and maybe floating away.

I always wanted to read this story anyway, but this has got me even more eager!
The indefatigable Mrs. Griffinquickreaver on August 16th, 2014 07:31 pm (UTC)
Thanks, Amb! You're really really too kind. Enjoy the fic! It's really marvelous. Her writing, though I know it's hard work, feels so breezy and smart. It was a treat working with her. :D

Beautiful.

Such an atmosphere of foreboding this conjures, boys look so lost and alone.

Thanks for sharing.

There's something eccentric and just plain delightful about Indiachick's writing that begged for quirky fontwork! And thanks bunches for the lovely comment. Warms my heart, for sure!

I love the moonlight on the spooky house and the bird. I also like the waves crashing on the rocks. I like the simplicity of the small section dividers, especially the lighthouse. Nice work!
